Health Information Management Specialist

BJC HealthCare is seeking a Health Information Management Specialist to join its release of information team, assisting with calls and faxes.

The role supports the maintenance, retention, and disclosure of the official medical record. It helps ensure patient safety, continuity of care, patient privacy, and proper release of medical records and information in accordance with regulatory guidelines.

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

The position involves managing completion of the medical record, reviewing release-of-information requests, maintaining data integrity within the master patient index and electronic health record, and supporting form distribution and documentation standardization across the health system.

Requirements & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED

Preferred Requirements

  • Associate's degree
  • 2-5 years of experience
  • RHIA or RHIT certification

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage completion of the medical record in accordance with regulatory standards and internal medical staff bylaws.
  • Review release-of-information requests under HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Maintain data integrity within the MPI and EHR, including correction of duplicate medical record numbers and demographic information.
  • Perform scheduled audited analysis of medical record documentation.
  • Manage the form distribution application and collaborate with EMR analysts and other internal stakeholders.
