The Release of Information (ROI) Specialist I in the VitalChart department of VRC Companies, LLC is responsible for processing assigned requests for medical records in a timely and efficient manner while maintaining accuracy, quality service, and compliance with HIPAA and applicable federal and state regulations.
This role safeguards patient privacy, handles request validation and authorization review, communicates with supervisors about quality or security concerns, and supports healthcare clients by releasing records securely and accurately. The position also includes invoicing-related tasks, maintaining client information, and cross-training on additional request types as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; degree preferred
- Prior experience with ROI fulfillment preferred
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and meet deadlines
- Strong documentation and communication skills
- Ability to maintain productivity and quality standards
- Basic knowledge of medical records and HIPAA preferred
- Prior experience with EHR/EMR platforms preferred
- Experience with Windows and Microsoft Office products preferred
- Strong computer skills
- Prior experience using printers, computers, fax machines, scanners, and microfilm reader/printers preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills with team members, clients, and requestors
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to focus for extended periods
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English
- Bilingual skills are desirable
