The Medical Records Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining patient medical records for assigned provider(s) and clinic location(s). This role ensures records are accurate, organized, and readily accessible, including scanning and electronically transferring data and obtaining hospital admission and discharge records.
Essential duties
- Timely scanning and electronic storage of patient records, both paper and digital
- Retrieval and distribution of patient records to authorized personnel, including providers, clinical staff, and referring physician offices
- Maintenance and updating of patient information in the EHR system
- Appropriate labeling of medical records for deceased patients
- Daily retrieval of records for upcoming patient appointments from historical EHR systems to ensure availability in the new system
- Verification that medical record release authorizations comply with policy, procedures, and applicable state and federal laws
Requirements & Qualifications
Required education and experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3-5 years of experience in medical records
