In keeping with the organization’s goal of improving the lives of the residents served, the Medical Records Coordinator is responsible for representing the company in a positive manner while maintaining medical records in an organized manner. Works in close coordination and cooperation with all areas of nursing.
- Assist nursing in organizing, implementing, and performing administrative procedures.
- Organize and complete medical records of discharged residents.
- Organize and evaluate medical records and health information for completeness and accuracy.
- Ensure residents’ medical charts are complete, properly identified, signed, and fully updated in the computer system.
- Copy records and send requests for records when presented with a properly completed medical release.
- Pull charts as needed for special audits and billing.
- Contact discharged patients, their families, and physicians to maintain a registry with follow-up or missing information.
- Protect the security of medical records and maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Maintain infection control and standard precaution practices, and follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies.
- Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of residents while promoting a caring environment.
- Communicate and interact effectively and tactfully with residents, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
- Report hazardous conditions, damaged equipment, and supply issues to the supervisor.
- Answer and respond to call lights promptly and courteously when working in resident care areas.
- Report resident concerns to the appropriate department head.
- Attend and participate in departmental meetings and in-services as directed.
- Communicate with other employees in a private and respectful manner.
- Work proficiently with company-designated computer systems.
