We are seeking a Medical Records Coordinator for our Blue Valley facility to manage patient health information and support accurate documentation and diagnostic coding for timely billing and compliance.
The role is responsible for maintaining complete, current, confidential medical records in accordance with federal and state regulations, HIPAA, and company policies. This position also helps ensure accurate ICD coding to support appropriate billing, reduce accounts receivable, and improve cash flow.
Shift: Day
Responsibilities include:
- Maintain the diagnosis list/sheet in the electronic system and perform ICD coding as trained in consultation with clinical staff.
- Create medical records for all new admissions.
- Maintain organized paper and electronic records, including filing, thinning charts, and tracking required physician signatures and Medicare certifications.
- Perform routine audits of medical records during admission, stay, and discharge to monitor documentation and compliance.
- Maintain forms and office supply inventory as directed.
- Coordinate with pharmacy and center staff regarding MARs, TARs, and related forms.
- Process medical record requests and ensure releases comply with HIPAA and internal policies.
- Retrieve, copy, and forward medical record information after required clearance.
- Maintain closed records according to company procedures.
- Respond to telephone inquiries and correspondence related to medical records.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Active LPN or RN license in the state of Kansas.
- Experience with ICD coding preferred.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with patients, families, staff, and external requestors.
- Sufficient computer skills to perform job duties.
