Position Overview
The Medical Records Representative will handle the transmission, retrieval, routing, mailing, and faxing of patient records. This role also supports the routing and importing of external records and correspondence, reviews medical record requests for accuracy, and works with multiple departments to ensure proper document handling. The position serves as a liaison between patients and the HIPAA officer as needed, processes daily mail, and assists with onboarding and training new staff.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Knowledge of Health Information Management systems
- Working knowledge of computer programs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to complete and maintain compliance training
- Understanding of practice management software and willingness to continue learning system updates
- Understanding of standard operating procedures
- Working knowledge of HIPAA and PHI
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 1 year of experience in a medical office
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience using an electronic medical record (EMR)
- Completion of a Medical Records / Health Information Management educational program
