The Release of Information (ROI) Specialist I is responsible for processing assigned requests for medical records in a timely and accurate manner while maintaining the highest quality service to healthcare clients.
This role protects patient privacy by ensuring only authorized individuals receive access to medical information and that all release requests comply with request authorization requirements, VRC and healthcare facility policies, and applicable federal and state laws such as HIPAA.
The position works closely with ROI leadership to address quality, connectivity, client concerns, and requestor issues that may affect performance or service expectations.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; degree preferred
- Prior experience with ROI fulfillment preferred
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and meet deadlines
- Strong documentation and communication skills
- Ability to maintain productivity and quality standards
- Basic knowledge of medical records and HIPAA preferred
- Prior experience with EHR/EMR platforms preferred
- Experience with Windows and Microsoft Office products
- Strong interpersonal skills with team members, clients, and requestors
- Strong computer skills
- Experience with printers, computers, fax machines, scanners, and microfilm reader/printers preferred
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to focus on tasks for extended periods
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English
- Bilingual skills are desirable
