Health Information Specialist I

This role is an entry-level position responsible for processing release of information (ROI) requests, specifically medical record requests, in a timely and accurate manner. The position is onsite in St. Louis, MO and supports the secure handling, retrieval, and transmission of patient health information in compliance with HIPAA and company/facility policies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Processing medical record requests and responding to requests for patient health information
  • Maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding patient privacy
  • Managing patient health records and ensuring records are complete and accurate
  • Creating digital images and organizing records in the electronic medical record
  • Answering inbound and outbound calls and assisting with walk-ins
  • Supporting administrative tasks such as fax handling, mail, and data entry
  • Meeting productivity expectations in a high-volume environment
Requirements & Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Strong data entry skills
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks
  • Detail-oriented and quality-focused
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to commute between locations as needed
  • Willingness to work overtime during peak seasons when required
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and medical terminology preferred
  • Familiarity with EHR and billing systems preferred
  • Experience working with subpoenas preferred
