Performs a variety of clerical duties in support of the Correctional Health Care team. Responsibilities include patient admission, registration, release of medical information, and discharge functions. Processes and releases confidential requests for medical record information to support health care services while upholding The MetroHealth System's mission, vision, values, and customer service standards.

Shift: 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, Monday-Friday
Requirements & Qualifications
Required:
- Associate degree in a related field, or 3 years of experience in health information management, a physician office, clinic, hospital business office, or healthcare customer service/office setting
- Typing speed of 35 wpm
- Medical terminology training or experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
- Strong familiarity with medical record documents
- Familiarity with HIPAA privacy laws and Joint Commission Record of Care standards
- Proficiency with computers and commonly used software applications, including Microsoft Office, internet, and electronic health records
- Competence using office equipment such as multifunction devices, document scanners, computer workstations, and telephones
- Strong customer relations and communication skills
- Initiative and independent problem-solving skills
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced office environment
- Attention to detail, ability to follow directions, prioritize responsibilities, and work with minimal supervision
- Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds
Preferred:
- Associate degree from an AHIMA-accredited health information technology program with an active RHIT credential, or a related college degree
- Experience performing release of medical record information functions
Physical requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently throughout the day
- May need to sit or stand for extended periods
- Visual and hearing ability within normal ranges with or without correction
- Finger dexterity to operate office equipment
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion
- Ability to communicate in person, by phone, by email, and through other communication methods
