Duties
- Scanning, indexing, and filing non-electronic medical and administrative information and forms
- Maintaining daily logs of documents scanned, filed, and indexed
- Responding to customer requests for information in a positive and efficient manner
- Performing qualitative reviews of work performed by self and other scanned documents
Requirements & Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship is required
- Selective Service registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
- Selectee may be subject to a probationary period
- Must successfully pass a federal background investigation
- Financial suitability review is required
- Must comply with IHS immunization policy if working in an IHS healthcare facility
- Work schedule may include 24/7 coverage, holidays, and weekends
- Must set up direct deposit
- Two valid forms of identification are required prior to appointment
- REAL ID-compliant identification may be required
Qualifications
GS-5
- 4 years of education above high school related to the position, or
- 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-4 performing health information management support functions
GS-6
- 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-5 performing medical records review, scanning, indexing, maintenance, release of information, quality assurance, and record analysis
Specialized Experience Examples
- Reviewing medical records for completeness
- Preparing, scanning, indexing, and filing medical documentation into EHR systems
- Conducting quality control checks of scanned records
- Processing release-of-information requests under HIPAA and Privacy requirements
- Maintaining tracking logs and retrieving/archiving records
- Communicating with healthcare providers and staff to ensure accurate patient records
