Duties
- Scan, index, and file non-electronic medical and administrative information and forms.
- Maintain a daily log of documents scanned, filed, and indexed.
- Respond to customer requests for information in a positive and efficient manner.
- Perform qualitative reviews of work completed by yourself and other scanned documents.
This position may involve work schedules that include 24/7 coverage, holidays, and weekends.

- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Selective Service registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Must comply with IHS immunization policy if working in an IHS healthcare facility.
- Must successfully pass E-Verify.
- Must complete a federal background investigation.
- Must complete background investigation forms within five calendar days of issuance.
- Financial suitability review is required.
- Must present two valid forms of identification prior to appointment; one must be REAL ID-compliant if state-issued.
Qualifications
GS-5
- 4 years of education above high school with creditable education related to the position, or
- 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-4, including:
- Reviewing medical records for completeness.
- Preparing, scanning, indexing, and filing medical documentation into electronic health record systems.
- Conducting quality control checks of scanned records.
- Processing requests for release of information in accordance with privacy requirements.
- Maintaining medical record tracking logs.
- Retrieving and archiving records.
- Communicating with healthcare providers and staff to ensure accurate and complete patient records.
GS-6

1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-5, including:
- Reviewing, scanning, indexing, and maintaining patient medical records in an electronic health record system.
- Ensuring compliance with HIPAA and the Privacy Act.
- Processing medical record requests from patients, providers, attorneys, insurance companies, and government agencies.
- Conducting quality assurance audits of scanned medical records.
- Performing quantitative and qualitative analysis of medical records to identify missing documentation and obtain provider corrections.
