Key duties
- Scan, index, and file non-electronic medical and administrative information/forms.
- Maintain daily logs of documents scanned, filed, and indexed.
- Respond to customer requests for information in a positive and efficient manner.
- Perform qualitative reviews of work completed by self and others on scanned documents.
This position supports patient records management and health information workflow in a federal healthcare setting.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
GS-5
- 4 years of education above high school with creditable education related to the position, or
- 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-4 performing health information management support functions such as reviewing medical records for completeness, scanning/indexing/filing medical documentation into electronic health record systems, conducting quality control checks, processing release-of-information requests, maintaining tracking logs, retrieving and archiving records, and communicating with healthcare providers and staff.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be used at GS-5 and below.
GS-6
- 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-5, such as managing review, scanning, indexing, and maintenance of patient medical records in an EHR system; processing medical record requests; conducting quality assurance audits; and performing quantitative and qualitative analysis of medical records to identify missing documentation.

- U.S. citizenship required.
- Selectee may be subject to a probationary period.
- Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Successful completion of a federal background investigation required.
- Financial suitability review required.
- Must comply with IHS immunization policy for applicable work locations.
- May require 24/7, holiday, and weekend work schedules.
