Under general supervision, this role ensures accurate assignment of diagnostic, service, and procedure codes for dental patient encounters. The position reviews dental records, assigns CDT codes, reconciles coding errors or omissions, supports billing activities, and serves as a resource for department staff.
Key duties include reviewing dental documentation, entering coding and billing information into Dentrix, reconciling charges, resolving billing issues including denials, and performing audits to support documentation accuracy and compliance with reimbursement policies and government regulations.
Basic knowledge
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Training in CDT coding, anatomy, physiology, and dental terminology
- Experience with dental software, preferably Dentrix
- Demonstrated knowledge of PC skills using the Windows operating system and related software
- Knowledge of medical/dental billing routines for physician office practice
- Strong telephone etiquette and customer service skills
- Ability to communicate factual information with patients and outside agencies with cultural sensitivity and professionalism
Experience
- Two years of related experience coding and billing using dental billing software
- Demonstrated expertise and accuracy in code assignment
