Pre-Authorization / Insurance Billing Specialist

We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, and detail-oriented Pre-Authorization / Insurance Billing Specialist to join a home healthcare team. In this role, you will manage the billing and collections process, ensure accurate and timely reimbursement from Medicare, insurance providers, and patients, and help improve revenue cycle performance in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

You will be responsible for preparing and submitting insurance claims, reviewing patient accounts for accuracy, following up on unpaid or denied claims, managing accounts receivable, maintaining billing records, and collaborating with office staff to support accurate documentation and coding practices.

  • Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using EMR systems.
  • Review patient accounts for billing accuracy, including demographic data, insurance details, and medical records.
  • Use coding knowledge including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG, and ICD coding.
  • Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and resolve discrepancies with insurance companies.
  • Manage accounts receivable, statements, and collection efforts for overdue balances.
  • Maintain records of billing activity, payment histories, and correspondence.
  • Collaborate with medical office staff to support accurate documentation and coding.
  • Stay current with billing regulations, Medicare guidelines, insurance policies, and coding standards.
  • Assist in training new team members on billing procedures, EMR/EHR systems, and coding protocols.

Experience

  • 1 year of medical and insurance billing experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and coding systems.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems and insurance claim workflows.
  • Ability to interpret insurance policies and resolve claim denials.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of healthcare billing regulations is a plus.
