As a Medical Records Specialist at HCA Florida Westside Hospital, you will support the Health Information Management team by managing medical records workflows, handling record retrieval and storage, assisting with unbilled accounts and physician suspensions, and serving as a primary point of contact when leadership is unavailable.
Key responsibilities include:
- Retrieving discharged medical records from hospital departments and reconciling them for completeness
- Facilitating retrieval, printing, storage, archival, and retention of medical records and alternate media
- Assisting with the physician suspension process, including reviewing cases, preparing recommendation lists, sending notices, and making reminder calls
- Preparing medical records and loose documents for scanning
- Scanning and indexing medical record documents
- Interacting with parents to collect and document birth information and provide guidance on completing forms
- Occasionally lifting papers or boxes up to 25 pounds
Requirements & Qualifications
Required and preferred qualifications include:
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Hospital or medical office experience preferred, but not required
- Previous experience handling patient health information, medical records document imaging, or medical records is strongly preferred
- Certification from the state may be required for birth certificate processing; training and course fees will be provided
