Onsite Area Health Information Specialist I

This is an onsite entry-level position responsible for processing release of information (ROI) and medical record requests accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with patient privacy requirements and HIPAA regulations.

Position highlights

  • Onsite role in Jackson, MS
  • Full-time schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm CST
  • Administrative work including answering calls and managing incoming/outgoing information requests
  • Face-to-face assistance with patient walk-ins
  • Data entry and document handling across multiple platforms
  • Uses Microsoft Word and Excel

Role responsibilities

  • Receive and process requests for patient health information according to company and facility policies
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of privileged information
  • Support patient health record management and safeguard records in compliance with HIPAA
  • Prepare new patient charts and assemble medical records in standard order
  • Create digital images of paperwork for electronic medical records
  • Respond to internal and external requests for patient records
  • Handle inbound and outbound calls
  • Assist with patient walk-ins and related administrative tasks such as faxing, opening mail, and data entry
  • May schedule pick-ups and perform other assigned duties
Requirements & Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to commute between locations as needed
  • Willingness to work overtime during peak seasons when required
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Comfortable using phones, fax machines, printers, and other office equipment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and compliance
  • Strong data entry skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Good organizational and multitasking skills

Preferred experience

  • Experience in a healthcare environment
  • Previous production- or metric-based work experience
  • In-person customer service experience
  • Knowledge of ROI and HIPAA compliance
  • Familiarity with EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner
  • Experience with document review and redaction
