The Medical Records Clerk provides the continuity link between patient medical data and services provided to the patient.
Responsibilities include:
- Scheduling patient appointments
- Assisting patients with selecting a primary care provider
- Participating in team-based meetings and huddles
- Tracking patient test results and referrals
- Contacting other providers and facilities to obtain medical records
- Registering new patients in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system
- Verifying existing demographic information for current patients in the EMR
- Starting patient visit notes in the EMR after check-in
- Preparing income evaluations for sliding scale patients when necessary
- Completing patient check-out processes in the EMR, including follow-up scheduling and payment acceptance
- Performing cash handling operations and end-of-day reconciliations when needed
- Following established policies, procedures, CQI objectives, and safety/environmental/infection control standards
- Adhering to corporate compliance and HIPAA confidentiality requirements
- Performing other duties as assigned
Requirements & Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate degree preferred
- Experience in routine office work
- General computer knowledge
- Ability to work in a friendly and courteous manner with staff and patients
