The Medical Records Technician is responsible for establishing and maintaining organized medical records and files in accordance with acceptable policies and procedures, including OBRA guidelines and applicable Texas, New Mexico, and Louisiana state standards. This role may also provide clinical and administrative support to the nursing department when needed.
Key responsibilities include maintaining medical record files, scanning documentation into the EMR, managing chart and record requests, supporting physician order tracking, assisting with audits and compliance reviews, and helping ensure discharge records and summaries are completed accurately and on time.
Qualifications
- Registered Health Information Technician credential, or high school diploma/equivalent
- Accurate typing skills of 40 WPM or more
- Minimum of one year of medical records experience in a long-term care setting preferred
- Computer literacy required
- Ability to read, speak, and write English
