GI Alliance is seeking an experienced Medical Records Coordinator.
Position Purpose
Responsible for assembling patient information into patients’ medical charts and records in an accurate and complete manner.
Responsibilities
- Assemble patient health information including symptoms, medical history, exam results, X-ray reports, lab tests, diagnoses, and treatment plans
- Review records to ensure all forms are completed, properly identified, signed, and filed in chronological order
- Communicate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to clarify diagnoses or obtain additional information
- Submit files and documentation to physicians and clinicians for review, quality assurance checks, and other purposes
- Provide charts and documents requested for legal actions while following patient consent and confidentiality protocols
- Manage the patient portal for the medical office
- Use practice management software to store, tabulate, analyze, and retrieve data to improve patient care, control costs, respond to surveys, or support research studies
- Protect patient health information and ensure confidentiality, authorized access, and data security
- Access and update referral software to improve patient care and ensure quality metrics are met
- Train new Medical Records clerks
- Manage inbound fax queues
- Serve as administrator for hospital portal and medical records access
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; associate degree from a community/junior college preferred
- 5–7 years of experience in medical records, preferably in a medical practice setting
Coordinator Status Requirements
- Demonstrated leadership ability and recognition as a leader by other staff
- No performance or disciplinary actions in the last year
- Serves as a mentor and trainer for new hires
- Considered a subject-matter expert by peers, management, and physicians
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to alphabetize and organize materials in chronological order
- Ability to analyze medical records for completeness and accuracy with strong attention to detail
- Ability to schedule time and assignments effectively
- Ability to multitask
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EMR software
- Knowledge of legal and ethical considerations related to patient information
- Ability to enter information into the preferred medical record system while meeting clinic standards
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, sit, bend, and reach as needed
- Ability to work at computer monitors for prolonged periods
