The CPT® Code 0522T refers to a specific procedure known as a programming device evaluation, which is conducted in person. This evaluation involves an iterative adjustment of an implantable device, specifically a wireless cardiac stimulator designed for left ventricular pacing. The primary goal of this procedure is to test the functionality of the device and to select the optimal permanent programmed values that will enhance its performance. During the evaluation, the device is wirelessly connected to a computer, allowing healthcare professionals to access and display the current settings of the device. This connection facilitates a comprehensive analysis of the device's performance by comparing the current settings against historical cardiac events. Key parameters assessed during this evaluation include baseline heart rate, heart rate variability, the frequency and types of arrhythmic events, and the rate behaviors between the atria and ventricle. Additionally, the atrioventricular pacing interval and capture thresholds for both the right atrium and the right and left ventricles are examined. Other important factors such as the battery life reserve, pacing mode, and pacing sensor settings are also evaluated to ensure the device operates optimally. Following the assessment and necessary adjustments, the device is reprogrammed to enhance its sensing and pacing capabilities, and once the reprogramming process is finalized, the device is disconnected from the computer.
