The procedure may be necessary in situations where the existing sacral neurostimulator electrode array has migrated from its original position or in cases where infection necessitates removal without replacement. The surgical approach involves making incisions at the sacral foramen level, which corresponds to the site of the previous electrode placement. During the procedure, careful dissection is performed to access the sensor lead(s) that have been placed through the foramen, ensuring they are meticulously freed from the sacral nerve. Depending on the clinical scenario, the lead(s) may be repositioned and tested for proper function before being secured with the implantable pulse generator (IPG) in its designated subcutaneous pocket, or they may be completely removed along with the existing IPG device.
