The CPT® Code 0830T refers to the process of digitizing glass microscope slides specifically for cytopathology. This procedure employs a selective-cellular enhancement technique, which is a method that enhances the visibility of specific cells within a specimen. The digitization process involves scanning glass slides into a digital format, allowing the captured images to be stored either on a local computer server or in a cloud-based archive. This digital transformation facilitates further examination by pathologists who may be located remotely, as well as the use of advanced computer algorithms that assist in providing a pathologic diagnosis. Unlike traditional methods that rely solely on direct visualization through a microscope, digitization enables a more versatile approach to analyzing cytopathology slides. The preparation of these slides involves a liquid-based slide preparation method, where the collected specimen is swirled in a liquid to suspend and preserve the cells. This technique ensures that the sample is filtered and that the cells are evenly distributed onto the slide, creating a uniform layer for examination. It is important to note that CPT® Code 0830T should be reported separately in addition to the code for the primary procedure when slide digitization occurs concurrently with the glass slide preparation of the cytopathology sample, excluding cervical or vaginal specimens.
