The CPT® Code 15276 refers to the application of a skin substitute graft specifically designed for use on various sensitive and complex areas of the body, including the face, scalp, eyelids, mouth, neck, ears, orbits, genitalia, hands, feet, and multiple digits. This procedure is indicated for treating open wounds that may arise from a variety of conditions, such as burns, skin donor sites, diabetic or venous ulcers, and other chronic wounds that are difficult to heal. The skin substitutes utilized in this procedure are composed of acellular bioengineered constructs and/or allogeneic cells, which are engineered to promote healing and tissue regeneration. Examples of these skin substitutes include acellular dermal allografts, tissue cultured allogeneic skin substitutes, tissue cultured allogeneic dermal substitutes, and acellular xenografts. Each of these substitutes has unique properties and methods of application, tailored to the specific needs of the wound being treated. The procedure allows for the effective management of total wound surface areas up to 100 square centimeters, with additional codes available for larger areas, ensuring comprehensive care for patients with extensive skin injuries.
