Destruction of benign lesions, excluding skin tags and cutaneous vascular proliferative lesions, involves the use of various surgical techniques to remove or destroy these growths. This procedure can be performed using methods such as laser surgery, which utilizes focused light to vaporize the lesion; electrosurgery, which employs electrical currents to generate heat for tissue destruction; cryosurgery, which involves freezing the lesion to induce cell death; chemosurgery, where chemical agents are applied to destroy the tissue; or surgical curettement, a scraping technique to remove the lesion. A local anesthetic may be administered to minimize discomfort during the procedure. The choice of destruction method is determined by the specific characteristics of the lesion, including its type and location. For coding purposes, CPT® Code 17110 is used for the destruction of up to 14 lesions, while CPT® Code 17111 is designated for the destruction of 15 or more lesions.
