Augmentation mammaplasty, as described by CPT® Code 19324, is a surgical procedure aimed at enhancing the size and/or shape of the breast without the use of prosthetic implants. This procedure is particularly relevant for individuals seeking to improve breast volume or contour through the manipulation of existing breast tissue. During the operation, a surgeon makes incisions around the areola and along the underside of the breast, allowing access to the underlying tissue. The surgeon then rearranges the existing breast tissue and may incorporate other body tissues to achieve the desired aesthetic outcome. Additionally, any excess skin is excised to ensure a smooth and contoured appearance. After the adjustments are made, the nipple and areola are repositioned and sutured into place, followed by a layered closure of the incision site. This technique provides an alternative to augmentation procedures that utilize prosthetic implants, focusing instead on the natural enhancement of breast tissue.
