Quadricepsplasty is a surgical procedure aimed at restoring function to the quadriceps muscle group, which is essential for knee extension and overall mobility. The quadriceps muscle comprises four distinct components: the rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, and vastus intermedius. These muscles originate at the upper border and sides of the patella and attach to the tibial tuberosity via the patellar ligament, playing a crucial role in extending the knee joint. The Thompson type involves a more extensive dissection and excision of scar tissue, while the Bennett type focuses on lengthening the scarred portions of the quadriceps without isolating the rectus femoris. Both techniques aim to alleviate contractures and restore functional movement to the knee, ultimately improving the patient's quality of life.
