The CPT® Code 34702 refers to the endovascular repair of the infrarenal aorta through the deployment of an aorto-aortic tube endograft. This procedure is critical in managing conditions such as aortic rupture, aneurysms, pseudoaneurysms, dissections, penetrating ulcers, and traumatic disruptions. The endovascular approach allows for a minimally invasive intervention, which is advantageous compared to traditional open surgical methods. The procedure begins with pre-procedure sizing and device selection, ensuring that the endograft is appropriately sized for the patient's anatomy. It involves all nonselective catheterizations necessary to access the aorta, along with comprehensive radiological supervision and interpretation to guide the procedure accurately. The endograft is designed to extend from the level of the renal arteries down to the aortic bifurcation, effectively sealing off the damaged area of the aorta. In cases of rupture, temporary balloon occlusion of the aorta and/or iliac arteries may be performed to control hemorrhage during the repair process. The endograft itself is constructed from a non-permeable polyester material and is supported by a self-expanding flexible metal frame, which allows for secure anchoring above and below the affected segment of the aorta. This procedure not only aims to repair the aorta but also to reduce the risk of further complications, such as additional dilation or rupture of the vessel.
