Neuroplasty, as described by CPT® Code 64708, is a surgical procedure aimed at alleviating nerve entrapment in major peripheral nerves located in the arm or leg. This condition can arise due to various factors, including inflammation of surrounding tissues, the presence of a tumor or mass, or the formation of scar tissue and adhesions that can compress the nerve. During the procedure, an incision is made in the skin over the affected nerve, allowing the surgeon to access the underlying soft tissues. The surgeon meticulously dissects these tissues to identify the nerve and carefully removes any scar tissue or adhesions that may be restricting its function. Additionally, other anatomical structures, such as fascia or ligaments, may be divided to relieve pressure on the nerve. Once the nerve is fully liberated from any surrounding impediments, the soft tissues are then closed in layers to promote healing. It is important to note that CPT® Code 64708 specifically refers to neuroplasty performed on a major peripheral nerve in the arm or leg, excluding specified nerves such as the sciatic nerve, which is addressed under CPT® Code 64712.
