An ectropion is a medical condition characterized by the outward turning of the eyelid margin, which results in the lid being everted away from the eyeball. This condition primarily affects the lower eyelid and can lead to several complications, including exposure of the cornea, excessive tearing, alterations in the palpebral conjunctiva, and potential vision loss. The exposure of the cornea can result in irritation and damage, necessitating surgical intervention. The procedure described by CPT® Code 67914 involves the surgical repair of ectropion through suturing techniques. During this procedure, a local anesthetic or nerve block is administered to manage pain effectively. The surgical approach entails placing sutures through the inferior border of the tarsus, which are then brought out at the skin surface near the orbital rim. This technique allows for the approximation and securing of the conjunctival edges, thereby restoring the normal position of the eyelid and protecting the cornea from further exposure and damage.
