Flexible endoscopic evaluation of laryngeal sensory function involves a specialized procedure that assesses the sensory capabilities of the larynx using advanced imaging techniques. This evaluation is conducted in a controlled environment, typically with the patient seated comfortably. To ensure patient comfort and minimize discomfort during the procedure, an analgesic spray is applied to numb the nasal passages and throat. The procedure utilizes a flexible endoscope, which is a thin, tube-like instrument equipped with a camera, that is carefully inserted through the nose or mouth and guided into the throat. During the evaluation, puffs of air are delivered through the endoscope to stimulate the laryngeal sensory receptors, allowing for a comprehensive assessment of their responsiveness. The entire process is recorded using cine or video technology, capturing real-time images of the laryngeal response. Following the evaluation, these images are meticulously reviewed, and a detailed written report is generated, summarizing the findings related to the sensory function of the larynx. It is important to note that CPT® Code 92615 is specifically designated for instances where only the interpretation of the recorded images and the report of findings are provided, without the performance of the complete procedure, which is coded under 92614.
