We are seeking an on-site, detail-oriented and dedicated Part Time Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong foundation in medical billing, coding, and healthcare documentation to contribute to accurate and efficient revenue cycle management. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of medical coding systems, billing procedures, and electronic health record (EHR) systems, ensuring precise claim submissions and effective medical record management. This position emphasizes accuracy, compliance, and a proactive approach to resolving billing issues while supporting the overall financial health of the practice. Experience in Plastic Surgery billing is preferred.
Duties:
- Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes in accordance with industry standards.
- Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using electronic billing systems while ensuring compliance with payer requirements.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective communication with insurance companies and patients to facilitate timely payments.
- Maintain detailed and organized medical records within EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems for audit readiness.
- Assist in verifying patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility prior to service delivery.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses or procedures as needed for precise coding.
- Stay current on changes in medical coding guidelines, including updates to ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT coding standards, and reimbursement policies.
- Support the billing team by providing training on coding procedures and documentation requirements when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or related healthcare administrative roles with familiarity in medical office environments.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT coding systems, as well as DRG classifications used for hospital billing.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems and electronic billing platforms is essential.
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare documentation practices.
- Ability to interpret complex insurance policies and resolve billing discrepancies efficiently.
- Familiarity with medical collection processes and patient account management is preferred.
- Attention to detail with strong organizational skills to ensure accuracy in coding and billing processes.
