The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for accurately translating medical procedures, diagnoses, and services into billing codes using ICD-10, HCPCS, and CPT codes. They ensure insurance claims are prepared and submitted timely and in compliance, facilitating revenue cycle and reimbursement processes. Initial support includes Nephrology practices, Imaging, DME, and pain practice specialties.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assign CPT, ICD, and HCPCS codes to medical diagnoses, procedures, and services.
- Follow coding guidelines and conventions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Analyze medical records to identify relevant codes ensuring medical necessity and completeness.
- Stay updated on coding guidelines and regulations.
- Prepare and submit electronic and paper insurance claims, verifying accuracy.
- Monitor claim status, follow up on denials or rejections, and prepare appeals with necessary documentation.
Qualifications:
- CPC, CCS, or similar coding certification required.
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD, HCPCS coding systems and medical terminology.
- Proficiency in medical billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Knowledge of healthcare compliance including HIPAA.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Professional demeanor with strong attention to detail.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
