The Trauma Registrar reports to the Trauma Registry Manager and operates under general supervision. This role involves electronically managing the Trauma Registry Data System in accordance with the American College of Surgeons and South Carolina Department of Public Health requirements. Responsibilities include collecting, compiling, reporting, maintaining, and entering accurate and complete trauma registry data using current ICD-CM and AIS coding.
This is a remote position.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma with medical terminology experience. Preference is given to candidates with a medical records course covering ICD-CM or AIS and at least one year of related experience, or an Associate degree in coding. Experience with data entry and chart abstraction is beneficial. Familiarity with EPIC electronic medical records and Image Trend Patient Registry is helpful. Certification such as Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS), or Certified Trauma Registrar (CSTR) is preferred.
Key responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate data in the Trauma Registry ensuring current AIS/ICD-CM coding compliance with national standards.
- Maintain the daily trauma database of patients meeting inclusion criteria.
- Abstract and analyze data from various documentation sources (Epic, EMS records, transfer records).
- Collaborate to improve Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) scoring and performance improvement by identifying and reporting complications and variances.
- Ensure trauma registry data integrity by analyzing errors and omissions using Inter-Rater Reliability.
Physical requirements include the ability to perform various physical tasks such as sitting, standing, lifting up to 30 lbs, repetitive motions, and working in a latex-safe environment.
