Medical Records Clerk

Established in 2001, Southeast Orthopedic Specialists is a regional leader in orthopedic medicine dedicated to providing industry-leading five-star orthopedic care accessible to many people. Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company is a vertically integrated musculoskeletal outcomes management company managing partners like CORE Institute and Southeast Orthopedic Specialists.

As Southeast Orthopedic Specialists continues to grow, they are seeking a Medical Records Clerk to maintain patient files, retrieve and file study patient charts, create new patient records and computer indexes, prepare file labels, maintain filing statistics, and audit filing sequences. The clerk responds to medical record requests, processes letters and reports, directs telephone calls, retrieves patient schedules, distributes lab reports and materials to other departments, and handles correspondence requests. Responsibilities also include photocopying records for billing or legal services and sending/receiving information via fax.

The role requires maintaining supervisor communication, monitoring supplies, and performing other assigned duties.

Education:

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge preferred.

Experience:

  • Medical office experience preferred.

Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with modern office equipment.

Skills:

  • Interpersonal and human relations skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Telephone etiquette.

Abilities:

  • Maintain records and files.
  • Operate a personal computer.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Physical effort in maintaining and distributing files.

Working Conditions:

  • Normal office environment with standard office equipment.

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • Sitting approximately 90% of the time with some walking and standing.
  • Some bending and stretching.
  • Manual dexterity using calculator and computer keyboard.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge preferred.
  • Medical office experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of modern office equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and telephone etiquette skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise physical effort for file maintenance.
