Medical Record Retrieval Specialist

The Medical Records Retrieval Specialist conducts quality assurance audits of medical records, diagnosis codes, and measures submitted to CMS and other government agencies. This remote role involves field-based responsibilities requiring travel to provider offices to retrieve, review, and validate medical records on-site.

Responsibilities include reviewing, uploading, and analyzing medical records to ensure accuracy, obtaining provider signatures, managing priorities and organization, conducting quality assurance audits, interpreting departmental procedures, managing workload independently, resolving documentation discrepancies, supporting provider education on documentation and coding, and maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.

Scheduled hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm PST with occasional flexibility. Travel up to 40% is required, residing in Denver or Colorado Springs metro area is mandatory.

Candidates must have one or more years of experience in customer service and medical records, proficiency with Microsoft Teams and Outlook, strong communication skills, knowledge of healthcare environment or managed care, and a valid driver's license with required vehicle insurance. Knowledge of ICD-9/10 codes, medical terminology, EMR systems, and a Bachelor's degree are preferred.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • 1+ years of customer service experience
  • 1+ years of experience with medical records
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams and Outlook
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience in healthcare environment/managed care (billing, coding, release of information)
  • Valid state driver's license and vehicle insurance

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Knowledge of ICD-9/10 codes
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience with EMR systems
