The Medical Records Retrieval Specialist conducts quality assurance audits of medical records and ICD-9/10 diagnosis codes submitted to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and other government agencies. This remote role requires travel to provider offices to retrieve, review, and validate medical records on-site in or around the Kansas City, MO area.
Responsibilities include collecting medical records to ensure accuracy, obtaining provider signatures, uploading verified documents, following regulations and internal policies, using a laptop and portable scanner to retrieve records, communicating with physician offices, and maintaining confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA.
This position requires independent workload management within service level expectations and occasional travel up to 50%, residing in Kansas City metropolitan area, and reliable transportation.
Scheduled working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm CST, with possible schedule flexibility.
Required qualifications include at least one year of customer service and medical records experience, proficiency with Microsoft Teams and Outlook, ability to handle high task volumes, knowledge of healthcare environment or managed care, and valid driver’s license with required insurance.
Preferred qualifications include knowledge of ICD-9/10 codes, medical terminology, and experience with EMR systems.
