The Referral Coordinator supports clinical teams, patients, and family members by managing referrals and/or authorizations for the Medical Group. They process internal and external referrals and authorizations from orders prescribed by providers within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system in an outpatient ambulatory setting.
Key responsibilities include entering referrals and authorizations into the EHR, completing registration, obtaining insurance authorizations for new patients and diagnostic services, coordinating follow-up care, updating patient insurance information, transcribing faxed referral requests, initiating referral and authorization processes, collaborating with clinical and scheduling departments, and providing patients with referral information.
The role requires maintaining knowledge of referral and authorization requirements based on payer guidelines, proficiency with ICD-10 and CPT codes, understanding third-party reimbursement regulations, and exemplary customer service skills.
- High School Graduate
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology
- Two (2) years of directly related work experience preferred
- Experience processing physician office and/or hospital referrals
