The employee is responsible for accurately processing insurance claims and overseeing the billing process for patients. Duties include processing payments on behalf of a patient, maintaining organized financial records to aid reporting, and calculating bill totals by reviewing previous financial statements. Responsible for handling all correspondence related to billing claims for all lines of business, answering questions, and updating accounts as necessary. Manages submission of all electronic claims through PC-based processing systems and submits paper claims to non-electronic carriers with required documentation. Responsible for correcting errors made by other departments to ensure correct claim submissions. Performs account, customer service, and organizational tasks to promote the financial health of SWGA/SWE.
Major duties:
- Submit bills to insurance organizations and patients
- Coordinate with teams to guarantee data quality and uniformity
- Focus on specific patient accounts regarding billing and reimbursement
- Proven knowledge of explanation of benefits (EOBs)
- Search financial statements for payment inconsistencies or errors
- Collaborate with patients, third parties, and team members to resolve billing inconsistencies and errors
- Create invoices and billing materials sent to customers or patients
- Input payment history, upcoming payment information, or other financial data into accounts
- Find financial solutions for patients or customers needing payment assistance
- Inform patients or customers of missed or upcoming payment deadlines
- Calculate and track various company financial statements
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Prefer 2 years experience in medical billing
- Medical insurance billing required
- Knowledge in patient billing
- Ability to organize and prioritize work
- Excellent attention to detail
- Proficient with Athena software
- ICD-10 experience: 1 year required
