Medical Billing and Coding Specialist

Burke Primary Care

Responsible for physician/provider billing, posting of insurance payments, and follow up of claim denials. Assists with collecting on patient accounts. Adheres to Burke Primary Care policies and procedures to ensure delivery of high quality patient care.

High school diploma or equivalent required. Certified Professional Coder preferred. Prior medical office experience required. Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding required. Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid and other payer requirements.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure charges are entered correctly daily including diagnosis, procedures, and modifiers
  • Post payments and adjustments to appropriate accounts
  • Maintain information on managed care contracts and ensure reimbursement per agreements
  • Keep current on Medicare, Medicaid, and other health care program requirements for accurate claims submission
  • File electronic and paper claims
  • Balance charges and revenue posting
  • Obtain and submit appropriate documentation with claims
  • Follow up on accounts receivables through EOB analysis and communication with payers and staff
  • Establish audit trail of unpaid claims and secure reimbursement per policy
  • Communicate timely with payers on inquiries and information requests
  • Assure accurate data entry for claims submission
  • Assist patients with account inquiries
  • Release medical information limited to that necessary for claims payment
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor

Requirements & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Professional Coder preferred
  • Prior medical office experience required
  • Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS coding
  • Understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer requirements
  • 1 year medical billing experience
