Perform a variety of routine and complex tasks to support the Finance Department, including accounts receivable, collections, reconciliations, ambulance and medical billing, cash handling, bank deposits, billing adjustments and account analysis. Independently accomplish tasks with minimal supervision. Serve as a customer service representative to the public and City employees.
Duties include reviewing and processing information or money, creating and posting cash receipt entries, utility billing customer service such as processing transactions and resolving inquiries, ambulance billing functions including verifying documentation, preparing invoices and insurance claims, posting payments, identifying delinquent accounts, and processing collections.
Communicate with insurance carriers, attorneys, patients, and providers to respond to record requests in compliance with HIPAA. Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive information according to organizational policies and HIPAA regulations.
Reconcile customer accounts, review invoices for accuracy, maintain files, prepare bank deposits, provide input for policy improvements, reconcile subsidiary systems, prepare audit schedules, and perform daily electronic data transfers.
Research and implement new technologies and processes to increase operational efficiencies. Maintain ethical standards and comply with all safety rules. Deliver excellent customer service and maintain effective working relationships. Adhere to City policies and maintain regular attendance.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent with three years related experience including professional billing with computerized accounting systems, or an Associate's degree in related field with one year experience. Experience with utility or ambulance billing preferred. NAAC Certified Ambulance Coder certification preferred.
Knowledge and skills needed include clerical skills, typing, spreadsheet and filing proficiency, organizational and time management skills, ability to learn technical billing knowledge including Medicare, Medicaid, and HIPAA regulations, Microsoft Excel and Word skills, ability to reconcile accounts, work under stress, write and maintain procedures, provide excellent customer service including dispute resolution, confidentiality, discretion, effective communication, and effective teamwork.

National Academy of Ambulance Coding (NAAC) certification preferred.
