Inpatient Coding Compliance Auditor

This position ensures the accuracy and completeness of clinical coding to support appropriate reimbursement and data integrity. It involves validation of coded information for external and internal affairs, reporting typically to the Coding Compliance Manager.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and hold relevant inpatient or outpatient coding certifications such as RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CCS, or CIC from AHIMA or AAPC. A minimum of four years hospital coding or auditing experience is required, with preference for experience in a level 1 trauma or academic teaching facility.

Key responsibilities include conducting coding audits, ongoing coding accuracy monitoring, coordinating educational sessions, serving as a resource for coding standards, designing audit tools, keeping current with coding and reimbursement requirements, conducting trend analyses, and adhering to ethical coding standards.

The role promotes professional growth, serves as a mentor and preceptor, and upholds Memorial Hermann's service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.

Must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for patient care spanning neonate to adult/geriatric populations.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certification in inpatient or outpatient coding such as RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CCS, or CIC from AHIMA or AAPC.
  • Minimum four years of relevant hospital coding or auditing experience.
  • Preferred experience at level 1 trauma or academic teaching facility.
  • Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT coding principles, 3M Coding applications.
  • Familiarity with reimbursement systems, policies, documentation, coding, and billing.
  • Knowledge of database applications and spreadsheet design.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Adherence to ethical coding standards and guidelines.
