The Charge Capture Specialist follows charge capture initiatives and develops processes to ensure accurate and timely capture of all chargeable procedures. This role upholds Rush's mission, vision, and values and complies with all policies and procedures.
Responsibilities include accurately entering charges for services rendered by Rush clinicians following CMS and AMA guidelines; managing assigned Account, Charge Review, and Claim Edit Work queues; monitoring and reducing accounts receivable associated with assigned areas; following up on incomplete and inaccurate charges; adhering to workflow best practices to prevent inaccurate billing; reviewing medical records to ensure clinical documentation supports all billed charges; communicating effectively with team and clinical staff; meeting quality and productivity standards; implementing process improvements; and engaging in continual education and training.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least two years of healthcare experience in billing, charge entry, charge capture, research, or Charge Description Master (CDM)
- Proficiency with medical coding terminology including CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- High accuracy in financial analyses and processes
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of healthcare billing, payment, and coding systems
- Experience entering and reviewing charges in EMR systems (e.g., EPIC)
- AAPC or AHIMA coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCS, CMC) or willingness to obtain within 12 months
Rush offers competitive pay and benefits. Salary is hourly ($20.19 - $31.80) and depends on education, experience, and market data.
