We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Medical Billing Specialist to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the entire billing process, ensuring accurate coding, timely submission of claims, and effective follow-up on outstanding balances. Your expertise will help optimize revenue cycle management while maintaining compliance with industry standards. Responsibilities:
- Review and interpret medical documentation to assign appropriate codes using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications.
- Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims through Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims by contacting insurance companies and patients to facilitate medical collections.
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, medical records, and coding documentation for audit purposes.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses or procedures requiring precise ICD coding or DRG assignment.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including medical terminology standards and billing guidelines.
- Assist in resolving billing discrepancies and updating patient accounts in the medical office system.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or a related healthcare administrative role.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and coding systems such as CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used for billing and record keeping.
- Understanding of medical collection processes and insurance claim procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients.
- Prior experience working in a medical office environment is preferred.
