The Medical Billing & Authorization Specialist role is part-time (up to 20 hours/week) and reports to the CFO & COO. This position supports clients and the team by handling insurance verification, claims monitoring, payment issue resolution, and prior authorization management to reduce care access barriers.
Key responsibilities include verifying insurance eligibility and benefits, following up on insurance claims, reviewing and appealing denied claims, submitting and tracking prior authorizations, reviewing payment responses, and collaborating with insurance reps, clients, and clinicians. The role requires maintaining HIPAA compliance and staying current on billing practices.
Required qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; experience in medical billing or insurance follow-up; familiarity with claims and prior authorization processes; comfort with EHR and billing systems; strong attention to detail.
Preferred qualifications: Associate degree in medical billing or related field; mental health experience; knowledge of relevant CPT and ICD-10 codes; experience with various insurance plans.
The work environment is office-based with potential future hybrid remote work; emphasis on flexibility and work-life balance.
Compensation is hourly at $15 - $18 with a 10% commission on successfully recouped denied claims.
