Duties:

• Review and interpret medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10 diagnosis codes, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes for billing purposes.
• Prepare and submit claims accurately using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with insurance guidelines.
• Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies, resolving discrepancies promptly.
• Verify patient insurance information and explain billing procedures clearly to facilitate smooth transactions.
• Maintain detailed and organized medical records related to billing activities, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.
• Stay updated on changes in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and billing regulations to ensure ongoing accuracy.
• Collaborate with medical office staff to resolve billing issues efficiently and improve overall revenue cycle performance.

Experience:

• Proven experience in medical billing or coding within a healthcare setting, demonstrating familiarity with ICD coding (ICD-9 and ICD-10), CPT coding, and medical terminology.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of medical billing experience (optometry preferred) and knowledge of vision plans (VSP and Eyemed).
• Strong understanding of medical records management and the use of EMR/EHR systems for billing processes (RevolutionEHR preferred).
• Knowledge of medical collection procedures and insurance claim submission protocols.
• Prior experience working in a fast-paced medical office environment is preferred with ability to multitask.
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately.
• Familiarity with healthcare regulations related to billing and privacy standards is a plus.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
