Billing Specialist, Revenue Cycle

As a Billing Specialist I, you will work/edit daily downloads of assigned Managed Care/HMO claims to optimize timely transmission of accurate, clean claims. Your responsibilities include identifying and obtaining invalid or missing claim data by communicating with departments to secure or correct information, ensuring payer filing deadlines are met, and adhering to regulatory, contractual, compliance, and organizational guidelines. You may also handle additional queues as backup and report billing system issues to management. Collaboration with other billing specialists and project assistance may be required. This role demands strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills, and the ability to multi-task under pressure.

Qualifications include: High School diploma or equivalent (AA preferred), 3-5 years of billing claims experience with Managed Care/HMO contract billing, understanding of 1500 and UB claim forms for hospitals and diagnostic facilities, and knowledge of medical terminology, coding (CPC, CPC-H, CCS, or RMC certification a plus), revenue codes, DRG guidelines, ICD-9/10, CPT-4, modifiers, HCPCS codes, HIPAA regulations, and Microsoft Suite. Excellent time management and interpersonal skills are essential.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required; Associate's degree preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Managed Care/HMO contract billing
  • Knowledge of hospital and diagnostic facility claims (1500 and UB forms)
  • Background in coding or certifications (CPC, CPC-H, CCS, or RMC) a plus
  • Experience with Federal programs including collections, refunds, claims adjudication is advantageous
  • Proficient understanding of medical terminology, coding guidelines (ICD-9/10, CPT-4, modifiers, HCPCS), and HIPAA
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, communication, and time management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office Suite and online verification systems
