Billing Specialist I

La Clínica de La Raza is a community-based health center dedicated to providing culturally appropriate, high-quality, and accessible healthcare to diverse communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. The organization advocates for equitable healthcare access and operates 35 sites across Alameda, Contra Costa, and Solano counties.

As a Billing Specialist, you will manage a major portion of a complex billing operation, ensuring accuracy in claims submitted to payors and reducing claim denials by improving data accuracy and reimbursement follow-up. You will maintain billing operations, perform clerical duties primarily involving computer work, audit patient claims for compliance and accuracy, and handle patient/payer statements and collections by processing payments, establishing payment arrangements, and resolving billing issues confidentially.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Knowledge of healthcare third-party reimbursement programs such as Medicare, Medi-Cal, or private insurance.
  • Familiarity with billing, accounts receivable, and collection practices.
  • Ability to prepare financial reports and maintain ledgers.
  • Ability to interpret billing policies and independently execute billing tasks.
  • Problem-solving skills and conflict resolution.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Experience working in diverse cultural settings supporting equity and inclusion.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three years of full-time medical billing or accounts receivable experience.
Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years full-time experience in medical billing or accounts receivable.
  • Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement programs such as Medicare, Medi-Cal, or private insurance.
  • Ability to prepare financial reports and maintain accurate billing records.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse, team-oriented environment.
