Responsibilities include reviewing and accurately coding medical procedures using CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG classifications to ensure proper billing. Prepare and submit insurance claims electronically via EMR and EHR systems, following payer-specific guidelines; follow up on unpaid or denied claims by communicating with insurance companies; maintain detailed medical records and documentation; collaborate with medical office staff to verify patient information, insurance details, and treatment records for billing accuracy; monitor accounts receivable and perform collections on overdue balances; stay current with updates in medical coding standards and billing regulations.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to interpret clinical documentation accurately. Proficiency in medical coding systems (CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG) and familiarity with ICD coding updates. Experience with medical billing processes within EMR/EHR systems and various insurance carriers' electronic claim submission protocols. Excellent attention to detail to minimize coding and billing errors. Effective communication skills for interacting with insurance companies, patients, and healthcare providers. Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy. CPC, CCS, CMRS certifications and experience in medical office settings or healthcare administration are highly preferred.
