The Medical Billing Specialist provides exceptional customer service ensuring accurate and timely claims processing in a professional medical clinic environment. Responsibilities include supporting patients with billing inquiries, communicating payment options, ensuring patient and company information confidentiality, reviewing, correcting, submitting, and following up on insurance claims, researching and appealing denied claims, and verifying insurance payments for accuracy and contractual compliance.
Key duties:
- Deliver professional and courteous customer service to patients, clients, and internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with co-workers and management to promote teamwork.
- Protect client and company information privacy and confidentiality.
- Assist patients with billing inquiries and clearly communicate payment options.
- Demonstrate proficiency with electronic and paper claims processing systems.
- Identify workflow improvement opportunities with Billing Team Supervisor.
- Follow up on claim denials and unpaid claims within filing limits.
- Prepare and submit appeals for denied claims.
- Correct and resubmit claim errors timely.
- Review insurance payments for accuracy and compliance.
- Provide training and guidance to new billing staff.
- Consistently maintain dependable attendance.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma.
- Minimum two years post-secondary education in Medical or Business-related field.
- Minimum two years' experience in a medical office setting or equivalent.
- Previous Medical Biller experience preferred.
- Effective communication skills; handle difficult situations professionally.
- Strong listening, organizational, time-management, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Working knowledge of insurance guidelines including HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid.
- Competent or willing to become proficient with Imagine billing software within six months.
Working conditions:
- Normal medical clinic environment indoors; exposure to noise from equipment.
- Protective measures as required based on exposure risk.
Physical requirements include periodic lifting (5-50 pounds), manual dexterity for office equipment, repetitive finger movements, normal hearing and vision, clear speech, prolonged sitting, and occasional bending and stretching.
Salary offered is $17 to $23 per hour.
