The Billing Coordinator will lead EP!C’s billing activity by generating claims, creating invoices, coding payments, and addressing denials. This role is essential for maximizing the collectability of claims through accurate billing, obtaining prior authorization for some Behavioral Health services, and following up promptly on claim denials. The position supports credentialing EP!C with new insurance providers and collaborates with Accounting and Behavioral Health teams to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant billing operations.
The role includes generating claims and posting invoices weekly to monthly, receiving and coding payments including EFTs and paper checks, managing denied claims, obtaining prior authorizations, handling patient billing inquiries, auditing submitted claims for accuracy and compliance, assisting in credentialing and contracting processes, verifying patient insurance and eligibility, and supporting staff documentation and training. Compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality, plus mandated reporting of abuse and neglect, are required.
- High School Diploma or GED certificate
- Preferred further education or certification in healthcare administration, billing, credentialing, or related field
- 4 years experience with healthcare billing, invoicing, and collections in Illinois
- Proficient in electronic health record (EHR) claims and payment management
- Experience obtaining pre-authorization for services
- Preferred experience credentialing and contracting with insurance providers in Illinois
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 codes, and medical billing terminology
- Proficiency with MS Excel (pivot tables, filters, sorting, basic data transformation)
- Attention to detail and strong ethical conduct
